Exorbitant Privilege and Exorbitant Duty

The 2025 Investcorp Lecture in International Finance and Business.

This year's Investcorp Lecture in International Finance and Business focuses on the U.S.'s privilege as the central nation in the International Monetary System, and the its related duty to provide insurance to the rest of the world, especially during times of global stress.

Hélène Rey, the Lord Raj Bagri Professor of Economics at London Business School, will present a model that connects the shrinking size of the hegemon in the world economy to the decline in the world real rate of interest.

The event, which is only open to registered Columbia University affiliates and select guests, is cosponsored by the Institute of Global Politics at Columbia SIPA, the Center for Political Economy at Columbia World Projects, and the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy.
