Reading About Love in Late Abbasid Baghdad: Interpreting Documentary Sources

How can we interpret manuscripts and what do they tell us about historic reading practices?
This livestreamed event traces the life of Masari' al-'Ushshaq of al-Sarraj, a single manuscript featuring a collection of poems and stories about love that was widely read in the late Abbasid and Mamluk eras. Hosted by Columbia Global Center Amman, this session is the last of a three-part series exploring culture and creative practice entitled Masterclass Mondays.
